Our team at Travel Doctor-TMVC Canberra are passionate about travel and experienced in providing relevant travel medicine to a variety of travellers. Our medical team have undertaken additional training in this discipline to enable them to provide accurate and individualised advice, all relevant to your destination and itinerary.
Travel Doctor-TMVC employs eight experienced travel medicine practitioners and ten trained nurses. This is complimented by an enthusiastic administrative team who work together to provide a professional service to all patients.
Dr McDonald studied medicine in Adelaide working in various rural practices around Australia and New Zealand. Developing a passion for Travel Medicine, Dr McDonald joined the team in 2016 after working for four years with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) in Sudan, Chad and Lebanon.
Dr McDonald has particular interest in expedition and adventure travel with experience in altitude medicine and keeping people healthy in polar, jungle and desert environments. She is also certified to perform recreational dive medicals to keep people safe while exploring the underwater world.
In her free time Dr McDonald enjoys spending time outdoors: bushwalking, rock-climbing or cross-country skiing.
Dr Yong graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1996. He has graduate diplomas in both Travel Medicine and Occupational Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow and University of Singapore respectively.
With over 20 years’ experience in emergency, general practice and travel medicine throughout Singapore, Dr Young joined the Travel Doctor-TMVC Canberra family in early 2017.
As an avid traveller, Dr Yong has explored most of Asia, many parts of Europe and Africa, and a world class multi-award winning photographer in his field of travel photography.
Dr Strelnikow graduated from UNSW in 1988 before moving to Canberra to train in family medicine. He has worked with Travel Doctor-TMVC for over 10 years while continuing to keep a hand in general practice. In addition to a variety of travel experiences with his family he enjoys the outdoors, particularly camping.
All of our nurses have travelled extensively and most have worked overseas or been involved in volunteer programs or nursing training abroad. They are all highly skilled and trained to give injections and are able to alleviate the fears of the most anxious `fully grown child’!
Joining the Travel Doctor Team in 2019, Nadia nurtured a keen interest in health and medicine by studying a Bachelor of Medicine before working at the Calvary Hospital in Canberra as a Senior Resident Medical Officer for five years. She has also attained her Master of Public Health and Post Graduate Diploma of Health Services Managerment. Nadia enjoys working in health management and medical administration and is currently furthering her study with a Master of Pharmaceutical Medicine.
