Our team at Travel Doctor-TMVC Canberra are passionate about travel and experienced in providing relevant travel medicine to a variety of travellers. Our medical team have undertaken additional training in this discipline to enable them to provide accurate and individualised advice, all relevant to your destination and itinerary.

Travel Doctor-TMVC employs five experienced travel medicine practitioners and a team of nurses that are passionate about travel medicine and immunisation. Dr Robin Yong

Medical Practitioner

Dr Yong graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1996. He has graduate diplomas in both Travel Medicine and Occupational Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow and University of Singapore respectively.

With 24 years’ experience in emergency medicine, general practice, visa and corporate health, occupational health and travel medicine throughout Australia and Singapore, Dr Yong joined the Travel Doctor-TMVC Canberra family in early 2017.

May 2020, Dr Yong has recently completed a course in Telemedicine by the Ministry of Health, Singapore. 

His clients have included diplomats and ministers, royalties and celebrities in Australia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the USA. 

As an avid traveller, Dr Yong has explored most of Asia, many parts of Europe and Africa, and a world class multi-award winning photographer in his field of travel photography.

Dr Mark Strelnikow

Medical Practitioner

Dr Strelnikow graduated from UNSW in 1988 before moving to Canberra to train in family medicine. He has worked with Travel Doctor-TMVC for over 10 years while continuing to keep a hand in general practice. In addition to a variety of travel experiences with his family he enjoys the outdoors, particularly camping.

Dr Nicolas Grandjean-Thomsen

Medical Practitioner

Dr Nicolas Grandjean-Thomsen has synergistically combined his two loves of medicine and travel to work at The Travel Doctor. He has a background in General Practice, having done most of his training in Canberra. He also has an interest in acute care, working with the Royal Flying Doctor service in outback NSW and Queensland. Nick is further advancing his skills in Tropical and Travel medicine via the James Cook University in North Queensland. Nick has backpacked on every continent of the world, and continues to explore with his wife and young daughter. 

Dr Jennifer Sisson

Chief Medical Officer Travel Doctor TMVC

Dr Jennifer Sisson is the Chief Medical Officer of The Travel Doctor TMVC. After original training in General Practice, she has worked mainly in the areas of Travel, Occupational and Tropical Medicine for over 20 years.

Jennifer obtained a Masters in Public Health and Tropical Medicine, with distinction, from James Cook University.  She is a fellow of both Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Australian College of Tropical Medicine (ACTM), is the Dean and a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine (ACTM) and Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow. She also belongs to the International Society of Travel Medicine and ANZSOM. She is the chair elect for ISTM on the Travel for Work Interest Group and current chair of a committee developing Travel Medicine Guidelines for Australia and New Zealand.

Since February 2020 her work has mainly been in the area of COVID-19. In 2020 this was with The Travel Doctor/Sonic Health Plus as co-clinical lead of the Pandemic Team. This involved providing advice and support for internal national company responses to the pandemic, as well assisting many companies and employers navigate the requirements of the pandemic. In 2021 and early 2022 she worked in COVID-19 pandemic space with the Western Australia Department of Health.

Dr Sisson has been the main Travel Medicine advisor for Travel Doctor/Sonic Health Plus and she has designed the doctor training programme for the company for Travel Medicine, regularly trains doctors and clinical staff and regularly lectures at conferences within Australia and overseas.
