Spike in EEE spillover infections in the USA

An ‘unusual’ number of eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) cases has been reported this year, with highest numbers in Massachusetts and Michigan, followed by Connecticut, Indiana, North Carolina, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Tennessee. Cooler winter temperatures will soon call an end to the season but spring is expected to bring an increase in cases again.
