Chikungunya Virus

Chikungunya virus is spread by the same type of mosquitoes that transmit Dengue and Zika. It is widespread through sub-Saharan Africa, South East Asia, the Indian Ocean islands and tropical Indian subcontinent. Since 2013, active transmission of chikungunya has also occurred in the Americas and has spread to the Caribbean, South and Central America, and North America.

The Ross River virus is Australia’s equivalent of the chikungunya virus as the illnesses are very similar.

Symptoms

IMPORTANT: Don’t ignore the symptoms – see a doctor as soon as possible
