Overview

Kyrgyzstan is a land-locked republic located in eastern Central Asia with China to the east and other former Russian states bordering the other three sides. The land is predominantly mountainous, with the central range running into China.The Fergana Valley, which is the major lowlands area, lies in the south west. Some of the mountains are permanently snow covered.

The climate varies widely, with a typical desert climate in the north, west and south east. The summers are hot and dry with temperatures around 28°C in July and falling to minus in winter.
