Overview

Jamaica is an island county that lies south of Cuba in the Caribbean Sea. It is mountainous with narrow coastal plains which are tropical. Jamaica is the 4th largest island country by size, in the Caribbean at 10,990 sq. kms. Hurricanes are common in Jamaica.

The windward side of the mountains has an upland tropical climate, while the leeward side has a semiarid climate. Rainfall is heaviest from May to October, while temperatures are fairly constant throughout the year. The lowlands average 25°C to 30°C, while at higher elevations the averages are 15°C to 22°C.
