Overview

Botswana is a land-locked republic in southern Africa covering over half a million sq. kms and with a population of 1.4 million people. The land is dominated by the north-south Southern African Plateau which separates the comparatively fertile and populated eastern grasslands (veld) along the Limpopo River from the Kalahari Desert regions in the west.

The climate has some latitudinal variation with continental extremes but is predominantly subtropical with semi-arid and arid conditions in the south and south-west. Warm winter (April-September) days can alternate with freezing nights but summer (October-March) temperatures can reach 38°C. Most rainfall occurs during the summer months.
