Travel Restrictions
The Australian government has placed restrictions on travellers returning to Australia from mainland China, Iran, Italy and the Republic of Korea. These restrictions are temporary and will be reviewed. You will find the most up-to-date information at the Department of Home Affairs website. All travellers returning to Australia from mainland China, Italy, Iran and the Republic of Korea are required to self-isolate for 14 days upon return. Further information on what a staff member should do if they get sick while in self-isolation may be found here.
The Australian Government Department of Health are closely monitoring the situation and have developed an activation of the Australian Health Sector Emergency Response Plan for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
General infection control procedures, hand sanitisation and other measures should be practised. For tips on staying healthy while travelling, look here: https://www.traveldoctor.com.au/healthy-travel-facts
Prevention
The key to stay healthy is to practise general good hygiene. Preventive measures are to avoid potential exposure, employ general hygiene measures and safe food practices.
- Keep distance from people who are obviously sick.
- Wash your hands frequently. Carry hand sanitizer for use when soap and water are not readily available.
- Maintain good personal hygiene and practise basic respiratory etiquette. Avoid touching your face.
- Do not visit wet markets or farms.
- Avoid direct contact with animals (live or dead) and their environment.
- Do not touch surfaces that may be contaminated with droppings.
- Ensure food, including eggs, is thoroughly cooked.
- Seek medical attention if you develop symptoms, especially fever or shortness of breath.
- To prevent infection from any respiratory illness, pay attention to hygiene, and avoid contact with sick people.
- You don't need to wear a mask if you are well. Surgical masks in the community are only helpful in preventing people who are infected with coronavirus from spreading it to others. However, if you are travelling in an affected country, you must follow the advice of local authorities
