Lepto risk raised

Each year leptospirosis infections spike during the November to March wet season as people are exposed to the bacteria in floodwaters and soil that are contaminated with the urine of infected animals. Last year, the region experienced a 11-year peak in cases, with most in the eastern and western parts of the Society Islands (Windward and Leeward Islands). High risk behaviour included exposure through freshwater bathing and recreational activities and walking through puddles and mud. Read more
