Imported fish & histamine toxicity food poisoning in Europe

The region’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed has issued several warnings over imported tuna from Vietnam that has been implicated in histamine poisoning. This year three outbreaks in Sweden and one each in Portugal and Hungary have been found to stem from the consumption of the thawed tuna. Food Safety News advises that ‘Production of histamine is related to mishandling of food due to storage at incorrect temperatures. Once histamine has been produced, it cannot be eliminated by normal cooking or freezing temperatures’. Read More
