France suffers second measles death

More than 2,500 measles cases have been recorded since the outbreak started last November, with reports currently showing approximately 50 new cases per week. A second death has now occurred due to measles complications, with a likelihood that the condition as contracted form someone who was not correctly vaccinated. Both victims suffered from an immunosuppressed condition and were unable to be vaccinated themselves. According to the Santé Publique France’s measles weekly bulletin, 22% of measles patients have required hospitalisation. Authorities in England and Wales are asking those travelling to the Continent to check that they are fully vaccinated.
