Florida reports meningitis outbreak in the United States of America

The CDC has announced an outbreak of meningococcal meningitis which has spread ‘primarily among gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men, including those living with HIV’ who live or have travelled to the state of Florida. A separate outbreak among a number of college students is not thought to be related. Advice from the agency is for those people at risk to get a MenACWY vaccine; for those planning travel to the state it is recommended to receive the vaccine two weeks prior to arrival. Florida’s Department of Health has also urged college university students and immunocompromised individuals to get vaccinated. Read more
