2nd imported monkeypox case in 2 years in the United Kingdom

Late last week health authorities confirmed an imported case of monkeypox in a traveller from Nigeria; the patient is currently receiving treatment at a London hospital and contacts are being followed up. It has been stressed that the risk of transmission to others is low and the overall risk to the general public very low. A single imported case was reported this time last year (also from Nigeria) and resulted in onward spread of the infection to two family members. Read more
