Overview

Turkey is transcontinential located partly in south-eastern Europe and partly in western Asia. The bulk of the population inhabits the western half of the country. Mount Ararat lies in the east and in the west, mountainous spurs extend towards the Aegean Sea. It is a country rich in ancient history boasting two of the Seven Wonders of the Anchient World and 13 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The climate is Mediterranean on the coast with hot, dry summers and mild wet winters. Winter temperatures fall sharply in the north-east plateau regions. Rainfall decreases west to east with very little if any rain during the summer months in the eastern plateaux.
