Overview
Located in central eastern Europe and bounded by Hungary and Croatia, Italy and Austria. The landscape is mountainous, punctuated by deep valleys. There is a small coastline near Triest on the Gulf of Venice.
The climate is continental, tempered in the west. In winter the temperature drops to freezing and in summer the average temperature is 19°C.
