Overview

Latvia is located on the Baltic Sea in north east Europe. The landscape is gently undulating with flat, glaciated regions. There are wooded lowlands with marshes and lakes. The north west coast is dominated by the Gulf of Riga.

The climate is mild with high humidity. Overcast conditions prevail most of the year with fewer than forty sunny days per annum. The summers are cool and rainy and the temperature ranges from minus 2°C in January to 17°C in July.
