Overview

Belarus is located in north-eastern Europe and was formerly known as White Russia. The land is densely populated and mostly arable, with hilly lowlands and marshes. The river system in this land-locked country serves as a transport system.

The climate is continental and humid but tempered near the Baltic Sea. Temperatures vary between minus 5°C in winter in Minsk to 19°C in summer in July.
