Overview

Albania is a nation of 3.4 million people. A mountainous country that is relatively inaccessible and untravelled, earthquakes are severe and frequent. The coastal lowland in the west is agricultural.

The climate is Mediterranean although winter cyclones bring unstable cloudy weather and rain. Summer is uniformly hot and dry. In the higher regions, winter snowfall and harsh conditions prevail. Tirane temperatures vary between 6C in January and 24C in July.
