Malaria acquired in Goa

Two cases of falciparum malaria ( the kind that can cause cerebral malaria) - one in Berne,Switzerland and the second in Manchester,UK - acquired in Goa have been reported in the past week by the International Society for Infectious Diseases. Because reports of P. falciparum_ malaria in visitors to Goa have appeared at regular intervals since autumn 2006 this popular tourist destination should be regarded as a risk area requiring the use of anti-malarial medication. Consultation with a travel health professional at one of our clinics will provide information, advice and the appropriate anti-malarials
