Overview

Located in southeast Europe. The heart of the country is mountainous and further south the rich, well-cultivated soil is dissected by many rivers, all tributaries of the Danube River. The north is more densely populated. Over 3,400 glaciated lakes and lagoons are a feature of the south east.

The climate is continental with cool, wet summers in the mountains and warmer, drier weather elsewhere, with periodic droughts in the north and eastern plains. Winter can be severe although milder along the Black Sea coast. Summer temperatures average 24°C.

Cold Climates
