Ask The Travel Doctor-TMVC

Q: Can you advise if I would have any problems taking my CPAP machine for my sleep apnea on an aircraft ex Australia and into Europe?

John.

A:  CPAP machines are generally accepted on board aircraft, and many travellers prefer to hand carry them to prevent possible damage in checked luggage. It is still advisable to check with the airline first, but they are now so common that is not considered unusual. They should be able to be inspected at security.

If the intention is also to use the machine on board, check with the airline in advance that it is both allowed, and that access to a power source is available, which may not be true for economy sections.
