Travel in the tropics means that some travellers will get sick despite our best intentions & preparation, & we do see some travellers commonly return with diarrhoea, fever, rashes, or less-commonly with possible exposures to animals, unprotected sex, or possible schistosomiasis.

Our experience managing traveller’s illness after return means you can have a medical review if illness has occurred whilst overseas or if you have symptoms on return. We can arrange simple blood, urine & stool testing, as well as provide specialist advice.

We can assist facilitate admission to hospital for those who are very sick, & may need in-patient care.

• We provide all our travellers an opportunity for them to tell us about the health aspects of their travel, & help us provide better services, by inviting them to complete our on-line “Welcome Home” survey

Travel Doctor-TMVC clinics now part of the global GeoSentinel project

Travel Doctor clinics have joined Australia’s only GeoSentinel project in Melbourne as “satellite locations”. The GeoSentinel is a combined initiative of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM), and the US Centres for Disease Control (CDC) to monitor illnesses amongst returning travellers in different parts of the world, and act as a global surveillance and early-warning system for emerging travellers diseases. GeoSentinel programs have been quite successful in identifying previous disease outbreaks, and trends of travellers illnesses, and now Travel Doctor is able to add considerable experience of returned travellers to enhance this important project, which ultimately is about improving and protecting the health for all travellers.  More information about the GeoSentinel program can be found at www.istm.org
