General Information

Language: English (official) with French patois widely spoken. Capital City: Castries. Population: 160,000.

Second largest of the Windward Islands. St. Lucia is of volcanic origin and is dominated by a forested, mountainous centre. Sulphurous springs are a feature of Qualibou. Tourism is growing rapidly and other sources of income are bananas, cocoa and copra.

The climate is tropical with average temperatures around 26C. Wet season is May to August and the dry season Jan. to April.
