General Information

Size: 28,896 sq. kms. Population: 380,000. Language: English. Capital City: Honiara (pop. 40,000).

Solomon Islands consists of about 30 islands and numerous atolls in the south Pacific Ocean, east of New Guinea. They are mountainous, of volcanic origin, and the climate is hot and humid with high rainfall.

Solomon Islands is not listed as infected with cholera at present.

Malaria Information

Risk (WHO):
Malaria risk - predominantly due to P. falciparum - exists throughout the year except in a few eastern and southern outlying islets. P. falciparum resistant to chloroquine and sulfadoxine - pyrimethamine reported.

Yellow Fever Information

Yellow Fever does not occur in this country.

Country Requirements (WHO):
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers coming from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.
