General Information

Population: 450,000. Language: Letzeburgish is the official spoken language. French is used for administration and German for commerce. English is widely understood. Capital city: Luxembourg-Ville (pop. 80,000).

Luxembourg is located in the north-west corner of Europe and is land-locked. It covers 2,500 sq. kms and has two distinct regions: the forested north and the fertile south with its flourishing vineyards. Banking, manufacturing and tourism provide income. Over three quarters of the population lives in urban areas. The climate is continental. The south is drier than the north. Winters can be harsh. The temperatures in Luxembourg-Ville vary between zeroC in January and 17C in July.
