Dr Jo-Anne Grey MBBS FRACGP BAppSc MPH
Dr Jo-Anne Grey is a dedicated traveller and medical practitioner with over 25 years experience working in Australia and overseas. Since leaving school, she has travelled extensively for business and leisure throughout Asia, the Pacific, North America and Europe. Jo-Anne was privileged to study in the USA, and to travel and study traditional medicine in China. She has also worked with the World Health Organisation in Western Samoa.
Graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1982, she moved quickly into clinical management and then public health education roles. From 1990-1997, she held senior positions in the non-government health sector, responsible for the recruitment, training and management of teams of health professionals. After completing her medical degree at the University of Queensland in 2001, Jo-Anne spent two years at the Mater Hospital Brisbane, then was a full-time Medical Officer in the Royal Australian Army Corps, responsible for deployment related travel health requirements of Australian troops. This experience gave her great exposure to the many and varied needs of travellers, particularly those embarking on journeys involving physical challenges. She completed her Fellowship of General Practice in 2006 and Master of Public Health (Curtin University) in 2008. Jo-Anne is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine.
Dr Ron Edmonds MBBS (Hons)
Ron graduated from MonashUniversity and he spent two years at PrinceHenryHospital in Melbourne working mainly in accident and emergency and intensive care.
Ron then spent some 12 years in solo rural, general practice in Warracknabeal, North Western Victoria. This involved family medicine, accident and emergency, anaesthetics, obstetrics and geriatrics.
He relocated to HerveyBay in 1987 spending the next 12 years there in private practice. It was at this time Ron began to develop an interest in travel medicine due to the large numbers of back packers in the area, as well as continuing to work in the field of family medicine. Ron moved toBrisbane in 2001 and has been working with Medibank Health Solutions group (formally HSA group) since then.
His work in this field involves occupational medicine, acute and chronic injury management, immigration medical work, defence force recruiting and ongoing work in the field of travel medicine. Ron is an ongoing member of the International Society of Travel Medicine.
Dr Noela Kwan MBBS, FRACGP
Dr Noela Kwan graduated with first class honours from theUniversityofQueensland. She worked for several years inNambour GeneralHospitalbefore moving toEnglandto work in anaesthetics. After a year of backpacking in Europe, she returned toQueenslandto focus on her general practice training and was awarded her fellowship in general practice in 2003. She has worked in the field of travel medicine since 2003 and achieved her Certificate in Travel Health in 2008. In 2004, Dr Kwan travelled toLucknow,Indiaand participated in the polio eradication program and in 2011, travelled toNepalto do some volunteer work at the Junbesi Health Clinic. She has been a keen traveller over the past 20 years and has visited 40 countries so far. She particularly enjoys walking holidays and has trekked at high altitude inChina,NepalandPeru.
Dr Helen Bajada MBBS (hons) DRANZCOG, PG Cert Women’s Health(Monash)
Helen graduated with honours fromMonashUniversityin 1985. Helen is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine and was awarded the Certificate of Travel Health in 2008. Helen also holds postgraduate qualifications in women’s health. She has worked in General Practice since 1990 and in Travel Medicine since 1992. She enjoys travelling and has travelled extensively with her family. She is enthusiastic about the health of families travelling overseas. She has viewed life as an expatriate living in South America for 1 year while her husband worked in the mining sector.
Dr David Pakchung MBBS MHA DipRACOG GCAppLaw CertIT FRACMA
Dr David Pakchung graduated from theUniversity ofSydney in 1986 and has over 25 years experience working in hospitals, emergency medicine, public health and general practice. David has travelled extensively through Asia, the Pacific andEurope and for many years has had a strong interest in preventative and travel medicine. David also teaches medical students as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine atBondUniversity.
