Imported risk of malaria in Costa Rica

Costa Rica: Malaria imports spark warning. Authorities have issued a warning on the increased risk of malaria transmission. More frequent travel between Costa Rica and neighbouring highly endemic countries has led to several cases in Matina (province of Limón), Sarapiquí (Heredia) and Pital (Alajaula). The situation is unusual as over the past five years there have been no reported cases of locally acquired malaria. Read more
