The Public Health Ministry of Cuba has confirmed that there has been an outbreak of cholera this month in the capital,Havana, involving 51 cases by January 15 with no deaths.. This follows on from a previous report of cholera in November in the south east of the island. Government sources state that the epidemic has rapidly come under control.
The cholera risk for travellers is very low if not negligible. Attention to standard food and water hygiene measures should be all that is needed but an oral cholera vaccine is available which can be taken as an extra precaution
