Nepal Dengue and Scrub Typhus

Dengue and scrub typhus are spreading at an alarming rate in Nepalgunj with more than 70 patients treated at Bheri Zonal Hospital and Nepalgunj Medical College Teaching Hospital.

Among the patients arriving at Nepalgunj Teaching Hospital, 50 were treated for scrub typhus while eight were treated for dengue, said Hospitals Director, Dr M Kidabai, adding that most of the patients have returned home while some have been referred to Kathmandu and India's Lucknow.

The Bheri Zone Hospital also treated two patients suffering from dengue and 10 from scrub typhus. Hospital's Chief, Dr Shyam Sundar Yadav, said one patient from Nepalgunj and one from Dang were receiving treatment for dengue while 10 patients were being treated for scrub typhus.

He added that the hospital has issued an appeal to the line ministry and department for availability of examination kits that are in short supply.
