Mosquito-borne virus infections in Bhutan
Bhutan has reported 2 confirmed cases of dengue fever for the first time. This comes shortly after cases of chikungunya fever were reported in the Himalayan state. Both these virus fevers are conveyed by mosquitoes and present similar symptoms of fever, headache and muscle and joint pains. Currently there is no vaccine against either disease and prevention requires extensive use of anti-mosquito precautions. Although the carrier mosquitoes are day biters they tend to be more active in the early mornings and late afternoons.
Bhutan now joins the growing list of countries where these virus disease are prevalent.
