Cholera in Sabah

Twenty cases of cholera in Papar have been reported in the district this month according to a statement by the Deputy Health Minister forSabahquoted in the Borneo Post online. Papar town is situated about 40 kilometres south of the capital Kota Kinabalu. Immediate steps were taken to control the outbreak and there have been no new cases in the past week. Two of the cases are suspected having acquired  the infection from food bought at a night market.

Travellers and tourists are at negligible risk for cholera provided strict attention is paid to the principle of water and food hygiene.
