Reminder for vaccination and re-vaccination

At the recent South African Travel Medicine conference, Albie de Frey made two points which he has also communicated to the ISTM listserv:

  1. Many of the African countries are not accepting (or haven't yet accepted) the yellow fever for life recommendation. Since previous vaccination prevents any serious outcome, it is best just to re-vaccinate.
  2. There have been significant outbreaks of yellow fever in Africa, so it is not just a legal requirement at the borders - it may be needed for personal protection; don't hand out medical exemptions unless absolutely indicated.
