Ebola virus disease update
In Uganda there have been no confirmed cases since 3 Aug 2012, making the country Ebola free. The epidemic has successfully been contained thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Health, Médecins Sans Frontières, the US Centers for Disease Control, the Uganda Red Cross and the World Health Organisation.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo the outbreak – which is not connected to theUgandaoutbreak – is not yet under control. As of 12 September 2012 the WHO reports that 41 cases including 18 health care workers have been reported from Haut-Uélé district in Province Orientale. Of these cases, 18 have been fatal. 28 suspected more cases have also been reported and are being investigated.
