Dengue hemorrhagic fever in Myanmar

The increase of hemorrhagic fever (DHF) cases across Myanmar in the last several months may reach epidemic levels by next year according to Yangon Region Public Health Department.

A DHF epidemic usually breaks out in the country every 2 or 3 years, and the largest number of cases happened in 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2015. Nay Pyi Taw Public Health Department announced that the whole country had more than 8,200 people suffering from dengue fever and that the death toll reached 40.

Between 1955 to 1959, 905 cases were recorded globally. In Myanmar there were just over 6,000 DHF cases between 1974 and 1976. Since 1976 to 2015, the country has seen more than 40,000 cases.
